Waxing poetic
Flowers are lovely, but dabbing is just as sweet. Cannabis enthusiasts choose dabbing to extract potent levels of THC faster without the irritation of smoke-induced throat burn. Tell your budtender to toss the bouquet.
BIO Glass dab rigs offer the same comfort and convenience as classic beaker bongs, and they’re just as simple to use. Users simply place their concentrate (also known as hash oil, wax, or reburn) on top of the nail, heat it with a torch, and inhale the resulting vapor for a powerful effect.
Whether a user is smoking blunts or ripping bongs, burning flower buds can take some of the pleasure out of the experience. One study found that “joints waste 300% more THC than dabs.” It’s an excellent alternative for ganja lovers looking to avoid massive clouds of smoke.
Our versatile dab rigs are built with extra-strong glass but are gentle on the planet. Users can take a more sustainable route to indulging than throw-away joints or blunt papers. We offer a variety of glass rigs to suit your customer’s style, from an assortment of colors and shapes to tools and added features.

How to Use a Dab Rig
Smoke shop owners should have a fundamental understanding of how a dab rig works so they can educate their customers and make informed product recommendations.
If your customers are asking for guidance, here’s our quick guide to using a rig for dabs:
-
Fill the Chamber With Water
Dab rigs (also known as shatter rigs) share a similar design as traditional bongs. Both have internal chambers for holding water. The difference is that dab rigs tend to be smaller in size, requiring less water to fill and operate. Fill the chamber of the dab rig until it’s halfway full.
-
Season the Dab Nail (Optional)
Dab nails are attachments that are secured to the dab rig via a male/female joint. The nail extends outward from the rig, keeping oils, shatter, and other concentrates away from the body of the device, so they can be heated to extreme temperatures without causing damage to the rest of the unit. Titanium and quartz nails require seasoning. To season the nail, simply heat it using a blow torch until it’s red hot, then let it cool until it's lukewarm. Add a pea-sized amount of oil to the nail head and evenly coat the interior, letting it seep in. They should repeat the process if they start to notice a metallic flavor when they smoke.
-
Apply Oil Using a Dabber
Each dab rig kit comes with a dabber, typically made from steel, that is used to apply the oil, wax, or concentrate to the hot nail. Advise your customer to never use their fingers or an ignitable material to apply oil to the nail, as it can cause an injury.
-
Cover the Dab With a Carb Cap
Using a carb cap is highly recommended in order to achieve the best smoking experience. The cap is placed over the nail to trap heat inside and improve vaporization while smoking.
-
Exhale
There’s no need to hold your breath after inhaling a dap. Trust us, they’ll feel the effects! Just breathe in and then out as they normally would.
The more your customers use their dab rig and become familiar with how it operates, the easier it will become to enjoy a smooth and seamless smoke sesh. With that being said, there are some tips you can recommend to customers to improve their experience.
Stay chill with these dabbing safety tips
Dabbing is fun, but don’t get burned. Provide your customers with these safety tips to ensure a good time.
#1 Use a small blow torch
Wielding a massive blow torch didn’t work out so well for Harry in “Home Alone,” and it certainly won’t work well for your customers. Here’s the deal: one of the riskiest maneuvers around dabbing is heating up the nail. Cannabis experts recommend using a small torch to avoid overheating the nail.
#2 Clean the rig frequently
Sticky, oily residue not only tastes terrible, but it can also be harmful to the user’s health. A dirty dab pipe harbors dangerous bacteria, leading to bacterial infections or pneumonia. Regularly cleaning the rig reduces the risks. Swish the rig with a mixture of isopropyl alcohol and salt, rinse with soapy water, and thoroughly rinse and dry the piece at least once a week.
#3 Consider using a dome or e-nailDabbing experts may be skilled at using a dab rig with a domeless nail, but newbies should spring for cover. A dome removes the risk of finger burns by effectively covering the rig’s heating element. To avoid using a torch, which can also present a fire hazard, some rigs also come with an e-nail. We offer e-nails in our Biohazard store.
#4 Don’t Overheat the Nail
Hotter isn’t necessarily better when it comes to using a dab rig. Yes, the nail needs to be hot enough to burn the oil or concentrate being smoked — but this happens at a lower temperature than a lot of people think. For best results, heat the nail and then let it cool slightly, until it reaches approximately 400°F. Then add oil, wax, or shatter. It’ll provide a much better hit.
#5 Space Out Smoking Sessions
The effects of a dab last longer than that of a traditional joint or even a bong hit. Customers can expect their high to last up to 3 hours, so they shouldn’t overdo it. Let potential buyers know that when oil or concentrates are used in excess, the body isn’t able to process all of the THC or active components, meaning quality product goes to waste. Less is more when it comes to this form of smoking!
#6 Operate Dab Rigs with Caution
Dab rigs consist of multiple small components. They’re also heated to extreme temperatures while in use. There’s always a risk of knocking over a dab rig, having it break into multiple pieces, and potentially burning someone. Always advise your customers to be extra vigilant when using these devices. Tell them to place their dab rig on a flat, sturdy surface when smoking, and to use a dabber to apply wax, oil, or shatter to the nail. If they don’t have a steel dabber, a metal paper clip or a butter knife are the safest alternatives.
#7 Keep Shatter Rigs Clean
Dab rigs should always be cleaned after each use. The more tar builds up inside the unit, the harsher the smoke will be and the more it becomes clogged, making it more difficult to use in the future. Plus, dirty rigs are a breeding ground for bacteria, which eventually travels into the lungs and body. For customer safety and an ideal smoking experience, a clean rig is always best.
#8 Use Gloves
We advise letting your customers know that it’s possible to transfer bacteria from their fingers to their oil, wax, or shatter when applying it to the nail. Using gloves and a dabber is the best way to prevent contamination and enjoy a clean smoke.

Dab Rig: FAQs
There’s a lot to know about dab rigs. We’ve answered a few of the most common questions vendors have below.
-
What Type of Dab Rig is Best for My Store?
What’s best for your customers is best for your business. You’ll need to consider the kinds of smokers who visit your smoke shop. What are they looking for? What concerns or preferences do they have? Your sales will rely heavily upon who you’re selling to.
Examples of cannabis consumer groups include:
Environmental EnthusiastsThese smokers spend a lot of time outdoors, living an active lifestyle and connecting with nature. They care about buying products that are environmentally friendly or made from organic materials. They may also appreciate mini dab rigs that can be discreetly carried while hiking, traveling, or exploring the wild.
Social Indulgers
Many young professionals enjoy cannabis on the weekends or in the evenings while socializing. These individuals are typically looking for a simple yet stylish dab bong that’s easy to use, interesting to look at, and long-lasting. Silicone dab rigs are a great option for this demographic since they’re highly durable and come in a variety of colors.
Long-Term Lifestylers
There’s no surprising this group. They’ve been smoking for years (maybe even decades) on a daily or near-daily basis, and throughout that time, they’ve accumulated a lot of cannabis products and accessories. But since smoking is part of their regular routine, they’re willing to invest in new or exciting products, test the limits, and experiment. That’s the benefit of having a high tolerance! These folks are more likely to invest in high-ticket dab rigs or specialty items, like this beauty that’s made from premium borosilicate glass.
-
Are Wax Rigs and Dab Rigs The Same Thing?
Yes! A dab rig can also be referred to as an oil rig, a shatter rig, or a wax smoking rig. There’s no right or wrong terminology. It varies from person to person.
-
How Much Do Dab Rigs Go For?
The cost of a dab rig varies significantly depending on the size of the device, the material it's made from, and the brand that produced it. As a rule of thumb, you can expect to charge anywhere from $60-$200 (on average). You can also charge more for a complete dab rig kit than just the unit itself. And as is the case with any product, price reflects quality!
-
Are Carb Caps and Other Dab Rig Accessories Really Necessary?
Yes, they not only improve the smoking experience, but they also make it safer. Making accessories available to your customers is highly recommended.
