The hand pipe, which Is also referred to as a “bowl” or simply a “pipe”, is a palm-sized smoking device for your dry herb. Hand pipes are best known for its simple construction and ease of use. Biohazard Inc. has an incredible variety of hand pipes to keep your smoke shop well stocked!
Hand pipe components
The hand pipe is a rather straightforward device with just a few essential parts. Every hand pipe has a bowl, carb, and stem. The bowl holds the flower. At times, the term “bowl” may be referred to the whole pipe. The carburetor, or “carb” for short, is the hole found on the size of the bowl. The purpose of the carb is to regulate airflow when you light up. Smoke travels through the stem, which is the part of the hand pipe from where the user inhales.
If you’re looking to boost your hand pipe smoking sessions, here are a couple additional components that Biohazard Inc has to offer:
Hemp wick
Hemp wick is a slow-burning, beeswax coated wick that serves as a natural and healthier alternative to lighting up your flower. Hemp wick, which comes from essentially the same plant you’re smoking, will not give off potentially harmful fumes unlike most lighters. The fumeless spark from hemp wick will give you a better taste. Hemp wick also burns at a lower temperature, meaning that it is less likely to destroy cannabinoids and terpenes and more likely to provide a better experience.
Pipe screen
A pipe screen is a (typically glass or metal) screen that keeps resin from going through the pipe. It prevents pull-through in your hand pipe so the only thing you’re inhaling is smoke!
Types of hand pipes
Hand pipes in the Biohazard Inc. collection come in various eye-catching styles, from the classic spoon hand pipe to the nostalgic sherlock pipe.
Spoon
The spoon pipe is the quintessential hand pipe. Biohazard Inc.’s glass spoon pipes are made out of borosilicate glass, which is heat resistant.
Chillum
The chillum pipe is also known as a “one-hitter” because it holds enough dry herb for just one hit. A chillum is around 2 to 4 inches long with the mouthpiece on one side of the tube-shaped pipe and a small opening for your herb on the other side.
Steamroller
The steamroller pipe is a tube-shaped pipe with a front-facing carb and a larger bowl size, which allows for optimal airflow and large hits.
Glass blunt
The glass blunt is an enhanced chillum pipe that features an adjustable herb chamber where you can pack as much (or as little) dry herb as you want.
Sherlock
This pipe is named after the famous detective Sherlock Holmes. The modern sherlock pipe has a recognizable long, curved shape.
Bubbler
The bubbler features a water chamber, which makes it a pocket-sized waterpipe. If you want the portability of a hand pipe and the cool hits of a waterpipe, then a bubbler is for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you use a hand pipe?
Hand pipes are known for being incredibly easy to use. All you need is the hand pipe, your flower of choice, and something to light up with (lighter, match, or even hemp wick). Just follow these steps:
- Prep your flower. There’s little prep work needed to smoke from a hand pipe. Grind your bud or use your hands to break it up.
- Lightly back the bowl. You’ll have an easier time pulling smoke through the stem if you don’t pack too tightly.
- Cover the carb and light it up. Keep the carb covered with your thumb or finger while you ignite the bowl contents.
- Uncover the carb and inhale. Remove the flame when the flower begins to combust. Lift your finger from the carb as you inhale.
- Exhale and enjoy (repeat if necessary). Hold in the inhaled smoke for a few seconds, then let it out. Repeat until the bowl is empty.
What is the best material for hand pipes?
The best material for a hand pipe is dependent on the qualities you desire in a top notch hand pipe. If you’re looking for a piece that always delivers a quality hit with a high level of artisanship, then a glass pipe is probably right for you. If you want a nostalgic, old-fashioned piece, then you should consider a wood pipe. If durability is your top priority, we recommend a metal hand pipe.
How do you clean a glass hand pipe?
Cleaning a hand pipe is a fairly easy task. We recommend that you clean your hand pipes regularly (about once per week) so you can get the most out of it. Biohazard Inc. has a collection of cleaning accessories for keeping your hand pipes sparkling clean!
If you don’t have cleaning solution handy, don’t worry! A mixture of rubbing alcohol and a teaspoon of salt will get the job done. Put the hand pipe in a sealable container, along with enough cleaning solution to submerge the pipe. Let the hand pipe soak in the container for up to 12 hours to break down the resin. Afterwards, take the pipe out and wash it thoroughly with dish soap and water to clean any hard-to-reach spots. Let the hand pipe dry, and voila!
Does a glass pipe need a screen?
Many hand pipes deliver perfectly clean and smooth hits without a pipe screen (e.g. the Journey pipe). If the hole in the hand pipe’s bowl is large enough, then we recommend that you get a pipe screen. Pull-through in your hand pipe can negatively impact the quality of hits you get from your hand pipe. A pipe screen will prevent pull-through and help your hand pipe clean.
How much does a hand pipe cost?
Biohazard Inc. has a limited selection of glass, metal, and wood hand pipes available for under $10, which is ideal for smoke shop owners looking to stock their stores on a budget. The price of a hand pipe depends on the materials used, how the hand pipe is produced, its size, and the elaborate and innovative features of the hand pipe. For instance, glass hand pipes tend to be more expensive than hand pipes made of other materials.
